Today in TAFE my teacher for Multicultural Australia handed out a copy of this email that he had gotten. It was actually rather interesting because it dealt with comparing information and such and the topic dealt with planets/stars and when you compared them you could tell that when you put up one against the other it was big but if you put the same one up against something else it was actually small. The email first compared the inner planets and it compared the outer planets and such but when it got to comparing the stars they had the sun up against stars like Betelgeuse and Antares and the sun was barely visible against it. What I found funny though was that when I was quietly going through it I saw that one of the stars was Aldebaran and I I first read it as 'Alderaan' and was like 'wait that's Star Wars' before I read it properly and realised that I had it wrong.

It was kind of an amusing when we went through the email and one of the guys commented that Antares would crush us, I'm pretty sure that, that comment came when the teacher asked us what we could tell from the information that was given.

This email was actually relevent to the class in a way though because we had to go through this sheet where we had to pick out what was wrong with the information given and how the information given was irrelevant unless you had something to compare it to.

I meant to post this last night after I got home but I decided that it was best to leave it til today when I wasn't as tired.

So first things first I didn't get that job at Coles but I don't really care as much now, hopefully I'll hear from the other place and find out what's actually going on. If I don't hear from them by the start of August I'm going to have to call them again. Then I'll probably start looking around for another job even if I still get to keep the job I have now.

Item number 2: I've started TAFE (earlier than what I had planned). I had my frist week last week and so far it looks like it will be okay. As part of the Tertiary Preparation Course this semester I have to do Computers, Communications, Language and Arts Skills, Maths in Context and Multicultural Australia. The only subject that I haven't had yet is Language and Learning Skills (LALS) but that's because the teacher who is supposed to take it was sick last week. So I'm not sure if I'll have it tomorrow or if we'll have Multicultural Australia again for Tuesday and Thursday like it was done last week.

Item number 3: I spent the weekend with my family up at the Entrance. We stayed with my Aunt and Uncle at their place and it was a pretty good weekend aside from the fact that we really only had one full day up there. I still got my copy of Harry Potter and spent the entire day just reading. I also got more DVDs to add to my steadily growing collection (I got Fiddler on the Roof, Kim Possible - A Stitch in Time and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban).

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows )

I got a copy of the book a bit after 9 on Saturday and I started reading at 10:00am. I spent the day reading and I was finished by 9:00pm that night. So I finished the book in less than 12 hours.

So now that Harry Potter is finished these are the book series that I a) want to finish reading or b) at least read some more of the books.

1. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - Douglas Adams (I'm up to Life, the Universe and Everything)
2. The Tomorrow Series - John Marsden (I've read the first one but I'm planning to re read it and I've also got a copy of the second book in the series to read)
3. Discworld - Terry Pratchett (I've only read The Colour of Magic so I've got quite a few books to read in the series)

So last night I actually did something that resembled a social life.

One of my friends was holding a candle party and she invited me to go so I spent two hours over at her house last night. Except we didn't really do much with candles, the majority of the evening I was talking with one of her friends who was there who I hadn't actually met before (I'm pretty sure I haven't met him, but my memory is rather bad). We had over an hour talking about Star Trek and different fandoms.

Our Star Trek conversations mostly revolved around 1) Who would win in a fight between the Death Star and a Borg Cube and 2) Who was the best Star Trek captain.

This was the first time that I've actually had those type of conversations since most people I know aren't into Star Trek. The friend who invited me over (who isn't a Star Trek fan) was like 'I can't believe I'm having this conversation in my house' and her housemate went 'he has this conversation all over Bathurst,'

It was pretty much random but it was fun.

In other news I still haven't heard from Coles yet in regards to whether or not I have the job but hopefully I'll hear something by the end of this week. I'm also starting TAFE next week, so I'll have to get into the studying pattern again.

Finished watching the rich list. What was possibly the most amusing thing about tonight's episode was that one of the tie breakers was to name Gilbert and Sullivan operettas. Since I'm a Gilbert and Sullivan fangirl, I was pretty much 'yay something I can name'. Well I named The Pirates of Penzance, which was the first one that the challengers named but then after the first two (The Pirates of Penzance, Iolanthe) they were mentioning musicals that weren't by Gilbert and Sullivan and the challengers then named Miss Saigon, so I was like 'no don't put that!'. Yeah I was yelling this at the TV, which I tend to do when it comes to a list that I can name. When the challengers were discussing what to put, they briefly mentioned Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat but that was by Andrew Lloyd Webber. I think if they had put that as their answer I would have thrown something at the TV.

I also find it amusing that I was watching The Pirates of Penzance that I recently got on DVD (again) and that tonight's Rich List had Gilbert and Sullivan. I'm still waiting for one of the lists to be about Star Trek, they've had a Star Wars one so hopefully they'll do Star Trek.

So I'm now going to be playing four characters at [info]fandomhigh. The latest character I applied for, Andros from Power Rangers in Space, was accepted so my character list is Naomi Wildman, Liz Sherman, Geordi LaForge and Andros.

Hee.

So I've now reached my four character limit, which means it will be a while before I can apply any new characters but this is probably a good thing since I don't think I could manage any more than four characters at a time.

Spent nearly a week up at the Entrance, got back yesterday after a very long ride home. Due to the bushfires and the traffic being redirected we got caught in the traffic at Wiseman's Ferry (we were there for an hour, even though we were pretty lucky because after we got through there were delays up to three hours) and once we got to Windsor it took another hour because it was bumper to bumper traffic.

It was still a good trip though, we stayed at my Aunt and Uncle's unit. I didn't end up going to the beach (which turned out to be a good thing because while my parents and brother went they didn't end up staying there very long because it was too cold in the water) but I did go shopping. I had $85 to take with me (I had more but I brought HMS Pinafore with Anthony Warlow on DVD the day before we left) after I was finished I had 45 cents in change plus a Myers gift card that I haven't spent yet. I ended up buying Terry Pratchett's The Colour of Magic, Neil Gaiman's & Terry Pratchett's Good Omens, the Oklahoma! DVD with Hugh Jackman, a five CD Rock and Roll box set and I also got a magazine and a notebook. While I was up at the Entrance I watched HMS Pinafore twice, sadly I wasn't able to convert anyone to Gilbert and Sullivan.

I'm glad to be home though and I'm glad to be back on the internet!. Even though we didn't get home until 9:30pm so I ended up missing out on Supernatural and The Sentinel.

Heroes is premiering next week YAY!

I watched this top 20 Baby Boomers Australian movies countdown that was on ABC tonight and out of the top 20 I'd only seen three of them. The ones that I saw out of the 20 were Gallipoli, Babe and Picnic at Hanging Rock and I only saw Gallipoli and Picnic at Hanging Rock because the movies were shown in class. Even though I do find it amusing that the actor who played the farmer in Babe, I don't actually remember his name, also played Zefram Cochrane in Star Trek: First Contact but that's also my Star Trek geekiness speaking. It was rather amusing listening to the commentary on some of the films that were selected though. Seeing Picnic at Hanging Rock as one of the top 20 movies reminded me that I still haven't gotten around to reading the book. I saw the movie in 2003 when my year 10 English teacher showed it to our class as part of our coursework and I was meaning to borrow the book to read but that never happened.

I also watched the last half or so of a Buffy the Vampire Slayer episode that was on Sci-Fi, I haven't watched an episode before and yet I was watching it tonight (I blame [info]fandomhigh). I think my family found that weird that I was watching Buffy though but then again they usually find everything that I'm into weird so that isn't something new.
