Had my seminar for Contemporary Australia today, thank god it's over!

I had to give a seminar on the declining loss of Australia's Biodiversity, I was up until about 12:30am this morning hurrying to finish it because I left it to the last minute (nothing really unusual there since that's what I usually do). I had wanted to have it done by the Logies, which I thought started at 8:30pm but then I found out that it actually started at 8:00pm so I missed the first half hour of it. So I was completing my seminar in between add breaks.

Aside from that, the only major problem I had was that I had pictures of various things related to my seminar on a Power Point but when I had the Power Point only a couple of the pictures actually saved so I was pretty annoyed about that.

In other news I had my Workplace Safety Orientation last Thursday, for which I can only say that it was the longest five hours I've ever had in my life. I think everyone was trying not to fall asleep by the end of it. At least I'm getting paid for it - we get paid on Wednesday's weekly so I should hopefully have the money this Wednesday.

I just received a phone call from Target a short while ago.

I got the job!

YAY!

When the woman who called me told me that I was successful I had to double check that I actually did get the job because I wasn't sure if I had misheard or not but luckily I heard it correctly.

The job that I went for is a casual position at Target and they were largely hiring for Stocktake, which is coming up next month but the way I see it is that even if I only do that period of time at least when I apply for other jobs I can actually say that I have proper experience in working. I'm not entirely sure how many positions they needed to fill but at least I was one of the people who got hired.

I'm going to go in to Target tomorrow after 1pm, because they're not opening until then due to it being ANZAC day so I can pick up my starter pack. I'm not going to know how many hours I will be working until I fill out forms and stuff but I'm just glad to be finally working so I'll be fine with just a couple of hours a day or something like that.

Julia and David won It Takes Two yay!

I started watching It Takes Two because I love David Hobson but eventually I really wanted this couple to win the series. I got in to the series about week four and then I got hooked, which is usually weird but I don't really like reality series as a whole but It Takes Two has been one that I can actually watch week after week.

Since people have uploaded the songs that were sung on It Takes Two I thought that I would link my favourites from Julia and David and Russell and Kate as well one song from Virginia and Ian who were semi finalists.

My favourites from Julia and David:

Beyond the Thunderdome (We don't need another hero) - Wk 5

Grandma's Featherbed - Wk 8

My favourites from Russell and Kate:

Old Time Rock an Roll- Wk 3

Summer of 69- Wk 5

My favourite from Virginia and Ian:

Tucker's Daughter- Wk 9

*stares*

Back in January I handed in an application/resume to apply for a job in Target. I hadn't heard anything for about three months, which is the maximum time they give to hear from them otherwise you just apply with a new application. This evening I got a phone call from Target asking if I was available for an interview on Tuesday because they were conducting them then.

I have an interview Tuesday a quarter to five.

At least this saves me from filling in a new application for a while now.

*stares again* so either they're desperate for people to work for them or they did like my resume enough to call me in for an interview. It's mostly likely that they're desperate but still...I actually have a job interview. Yay!

I'm in the process of updating my iPod at the moment and the vast majority of my playlists are musical theatre related. I haven't finished updating at the minute so I'm still putting music on it but the fact my music collection mostly consists of musical theatre related stuff my playlist looks sort of scary.

Here's what I have so far that's in some form related to musical theatre:

1776
42nd Street
A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum
Annie
Annie Get Your Gun
Barnum
Brigadoon
Bye Bye Birdie
Camelot
Cats
Fiddler on the Roof
Footloose
Grease
H.M.S. Pinafore
Into the Woods
Jekyll and Hyde
Jesus Christ Superstar
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat
Les Miserables
Meet Me in St. Louis
Nunsense
Oklahoma!
Once Upon a Mattress
Rent
Return to the Forbidden Planet
The Fantasticks
The Music Man
The Pirates of Penzance
The Sound of Music
The Wizard of Oz
West Side Story

In other news I got back the first half of my newsediting assignment that I handed in last week. It was initially due last Monday but I realized that I had screwed it up so I asked if I could hand it in later so I was given until Thursday to hand it in. I rushed through it Wednesday night (which shouldn't surprise anyone) and handed it on Thursday. Since I didn't have Newsediting on Monday because Easter Monday was a public holiday I didn't get the draft back until Tuesday when I ran into my Newsediting teacher after Statistics. When Sandra said that she had my assignment I went "oh" because I wasn't sure if that was a good thing or not and she went "don't say it like that" but it turns out I did pretty good on the first draft. The highest mark on the first part was 18 and I ended up getting 15 out of 18 for the initial draft of the assignment, which I wasn't expecting because I was sure that I had still screwed it up. I now have to rewrite the news story and hand it in about a week's time.

So that's about it in terms of academic related stuff. Aside from Statistics (which I hate, but that's a given since I despite maths with a passion) everything else is going well.

What do you do with it?
Spend it on DVDs.

2. Your ultimate OTP? (fandom or real life)
My ultimate OTP would have to be Janeway/Chakotay from Star Trek: Voyager

3. Have you ever seen someone die?
No.

4. Are you confused as to what lies ahead of you?
A little bit, mostly just about uni studies since I'm still unsure about what degree I want to do and about what job I can do with the degree I end up doing.

5. Would you continue to wait for them to change their feelings?
I wouldn't wait, if it was clear that they weren't interested I wouldn't bother wasting my time in trying to get them to change their feelings about me.

8. If the person you secretly like is already attached. What would you do?
I wouldn't do anything.

9. Is there anything that has made you unhappy recently?
Not really.

10. What do you want most in life?
I want to be happy, healthy and successful.

11. Which of the 7 Deadly Sins do you think you relate to the most & why?
Probably Sloth - I'm generally pretty lazy most of the time.

12. If you find out that your best friend is going out with your boyfriend/girlfriend. How would you react?
Well I don't have a current boyfriend/girlfriend at the moment (that might be changing soon though) but if it did happen I would probably confront both of them about it to see why they did it and then make a decision after I talk to them.

13. Who is currently the most important person to you?
My parents.

14. Do you believe there is nothing higher than human kind?
Personally I don't think there is anything higher than human kind but my feelings about this are rather mixed.

16. Which fictional character could you most see yourself marrying?
As sad as this sounds I have to say Wesley Crusher from Star Trek: The Next Generation <strike>please don't hurt me</strike>

17. Would you give your all in a relationship?
If it was a relationship that I wanted to be in I would.

18. Do you have a motto? If yes: Which one?
It's not so much a motto but I do like this quote "Shoot for the moon, even if you miss, you'll land among the stars,"

19. What type of friends do you like?
I like all kinds of friends - both online and real life.

20. Do you have an all time favorite song?

I love too many songs to be able to name a favourite but at the minute I've been to listening to 'Do you hear the people sing' from Les Miserables and 'We Beseech thee,' from Godspell a lot.

I tag alisa1854, ashavah, aussiephil, chaymia, juliet_demarcus, mrs_picard, snapeobviously, soleta_nf

I went shopping yesterday to buy the rest of the present that I got for my friend Sam's 21st birthday. While I was downtown I also added three new dvds to my collection. The dvds I got were:

Buffy the Vampire Slayer - Season One
Camelot (film musical) (I've been looking for a copy for a while and I was browsing through the dvds that were marked $6.34 and I found it in one of those shelves)
Muppets Treasure Island (favourite muppet movie that I've wanted to get for ages)

Sam's 21st birthday party was tonight. Her birthday is actually in February but she had a combined birthday with her dad (who was turning 50) and her brother (who was turning 18). It was a pretty good night. We ended up playing Singstar at the end, which is the first time I've played the game. It was fun though, I have to say singing Video Killed the Radio Star by the Buggles was probably the easiest song that we did. Some of the songs we did were Build me up Buttercup, Just like a pill, Survivor, Bring me to Life, Who do you think you are, Girls just want to have fun and a couple of others.

Including tonight, I have now been out for the past three Saturday nights now.

I still haven't figured out how I've actually started having a social life.

I just finished watching my first episode of House.

I think I might have a new fandom.

In terms of general updates I had a fairly busy Saturday and Sunday doing actual real life things - I have never been this social in one weekend.

TAFE's going okay, apart from Statistics which is boring (we were doing frequency tables pretty much all lesson on Tuesday). Newsediting for Communications and Contemporary Australia are going great though. We have a current affairs quiz each Monday in Newsediting and this time two of the questions were sport related (I got one of the two questions wrong. One of the questions was who won the A-League Soccer grand final, this match was between Central Coast Mariners and the Newcastle Jets, Newcastle Jets won but I only knew that Central Coast was playing in the match so I put that down and then got it wrong. The other sports question was who won the pre season NRL match which was played in Orange on the weekend - the teams that played were the Canberra Raiders and the Brisbane Broncos, I guessed that the Raiders won (which I got right) but that was only because I knew that they had been in Orange for the past couple of days. I had initially thought it was the Sydney Roosters because I knew that they had also played the West Tigers that same weekend but then I reasoned that if they had been in Orange then my brother (who is a West Tigers fan) would have tried to get down there if he could (Orange is about 30-45 minutes from where I live). So I ended up getting 9/10 for the quiz.

For Contemporary Australia we had to write about 3 cartoon sources and do some research about the issues that they were talking about. They're due for tomorrow's class but I've only done one of the cartoons. I'm here on lj instead so I should probably get off and finish the last two sources.

Yay! The Adam Brand CD that I ordered the other week came today. This album has two songs of Adam Brand that I really like - Grandpa's Piano and Dirt Track Cowboys, I haven't listened to the other songs yet but I'm going to listen to them later. My dad also likes Adam Brand and when he started listening to Grandpa's Piano I thought for a minute that he was going to take the CD - he's actually going to make a copy of it for himself.

For some reason I've started watching more TV than I have been lately. Usually I just watched reruns of Charmed and I've been watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer as part of cookieanalogy but I've started watching Supernatural on Monday, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles on Tuesday and I also watched Back to You this evening. I normally don't watch a lot of comedies but I haven't laughed that hard in ages like I did this evening.

In other news I have fallen in love with the musical Nunsense. I had downloaded the Original Cast album a while ago but I had only just gotten round to listening to it. I actually started watching the live stage show that had been put on youtube and then I began listening to the album after I realised how awesome the musical was. I love all the songs but some of my favourite ones are Nunsense is Habit Forming, Growing up Catholic, Just a Couple of Sisters and Holier Than Thou.

So I've had my first week of TAFE.

It wasn't too bad starting back even though I didn't want to get out of bed to go to school on Monday since I was used to being on holidays.

One of the main problems to start with was the buses because the bus timetables were changed this year and as a result the connecting bus that I need to get in order to go up to the TAFE/Uni doesn't meet up. The connecting bus leaves five minutes earlier so by the time the bus that I catch to go downtown so I can change buses gets there, the bus I need to be on has already left. In the end I remained on the first bus I was on and it dropped me off about half a block or so from the TAFE, so all I needed to do was walk straight downhill to where it is.

It was funny yesterday though because I caught the bus at 8.18am (I had class at 9.30am but if I caught the later bus I would have been late) and when it came it was full of students who went to Bathurst High School and for a minute I thought I read the name of the bus wrong (it said 523 - Eglinton, which is the bus that I catch) but when I went up to check. The bus driver went to me "The high school?" thinking that I was one of the high school students, I graduated from high school in 2005 (he's not the first one to think that I'm younger than what I actually am) and I go "is this the Eglinton bus?" and after he said that it was I explained that I needed to go to TAFE.

These are the classes that I have this semester:

Newsediting for Communications
Contemporary Australian Society
Statistics

It doesn't seem a lot but I have Contemporary Australian Society and Statistics two times a week instead of once a week. Since I started the course last semester I don't have to do Lals A or Computers (even though I will have to do spreadsheets when it gets up to that since I need to be able to do spreadsheets as part of statistics.) I'm just glad that this semester will be the last time that I have to do a maths subject. Also watching the news at least once a day like I normally do is going to come in handy since two of my subjects will be dealing with Current Affairs.

In other news today I got part of the order that I made through Sanity earlier this week. I used the gift card that I got for my birthday and I ordered Sneaky Sound System's single Goodbye ($3.99) and I also ordered Adam Brand's debut album called Adam Brand (it was $9.99). There was something like $3.75 for postage and I had a $20 gift card so it came to over $17. I got Sneaky Sound System's single today and I received an Order Confirmation that Sanity had shipped Adam Brand's album out so depending on where they shipped the order from I should get it sometime next week, probably Thursday at the latest.

I went shopping yesterday to spend my birthday money. The only problem was actually carrying the bags around. One of the stores I went to I ended up having one of their bigger bags but it ended up breaking and I had to get more bags from another store that I was in.

I also ended up picking up a job application. The job is for a casual position to work Customer Service at the Post Office. The application closes on Tuesday so I'm probably going to fill it out tomorrow.

I was aiming to post an entry last night but after getting back I was too tired to post it so I'm writing it now.

Overall the trip was fairly good aside from the weather. It rained every second day and was overcast pretty much all week. We got the rain, lightning and thunder from the storm that hit Sydney on Sunday and since then the weather was pretty much miserable. It sucks though because the weather was blue sky and sunny on the day that we left but that was pretty much to be expected.

The place we went to was Anna Bay, which is in Port Stephens. Aside from having computer and internet withdrawals for the week (next time I go away on holidays I'm at least bringing my laptop with me). I didn't get to go swimming at the beach because the conditions were fairly rough but I did so swimming in the pool that was in the resort that we stayed at. I also got to go shopping at the nearest Westfield, which was about 40 minutes away because I wanted to get another DVD since I didn't know that our room had a DVD player in it and I had only brought one DVD with me. I ended up buying the first season of Charmed, which was initially $59.95 in Target and I got it for $31.99. I've so far watched the first three episodes, I had planned on watching more but the day after I got the DVD the player decided not to work and I couldn't watch any more episodes until I got home.

I will also be happy to not eat Takeaway for a while, especially McDonalds. I had McDonalds for lunch on Sunday, lunch on Monday, dessert on Tuesday and lunch on Wednesday. I had Chinese on Tuesday. We ate at the Nelsons Bay RSL on Monday and ate at the Bistro that wasn't far from where we were on Thursday. I really wanted Hungry Jacks at one stage through the week but there wasn't any outlets where we ended up going. I did have Hungry Jacks for dinner yesterday after we got back but it wasn't as enjoyable because by then I was pretty much sick of eating takeaway. I didn't think I could get sick of eating Takeaway but apparently I can. It didn't really help that I had Chinese tonight because I went out for one of my friend's birthday, which is tomorrow.

In other news it also appears that I passed all of my units at TAFE this semester. My results were on my account on the TAFE website and from what I can tell I passed everything so that's good. I even passed maths, which I wasn't expecting to do but I don't think the teacher would have let me flunk the class. I got 52%, which is two more marks than what I needed to pass. So yay me!

I found out that the musical the Carillon Theatrical Society is doing next is Hello, Dolly! and the auditions for it are next week but I'm not going to be here next week because I'm going away on holidays, which sucks. It also sucks because they're looking for people who are good at both singing and dancing and I can't dance so that kind of rules me out. I would be okay with the singing part but I wouldn't do any good with the dancing since the auditions also include a dance audition as well.

I'm hoping that they'll be doing more than one musical next year because this year they only did one musical, which was Rent and I hope that if they do another musical it will be one that I'll be able to do. I'd love it if they would do either Into the Woods or Jekyll and Hyde but knowing my luck that will never happen.

This collection was just sitting in a plastic bag so I asked if I could have the action figures, he said that I could so now I have Power Ranger action figures.

My parents didn't understand why I wanted the Power Ranger figures, I just said that I wanted them but I think they've given me up as a lost cause because they don't get why I'm still interested in them.

But I have the action figures now, I've already found a place to put them and they're mostly arranged on my desk but I put a few of them up on the shelf above my desk.

An upddate of sorts:

1. Nano is coming along quite well. I'm currently at 16441 words and I'm happy with the progress that I've made so far. I hope to be able to get to 20000 words by the end of the weekend.

2. In terms of the Melbourne Cup I ended up betting on Zipping, which came fourth. Normally I go for number 3, which is my favourite number but I decided to do something different and I went for number 9 (Zipping). I got Purple Moon (number 12) in the sweeps at mum's work so I did end up getting some money from the Melbourne Cup though. What was funny though was that mum got the winning horse (Efficent) and my brother Stephen ended up getting the horse that got placed third. So out of the $1 sweeps our family (with the exception of dad who didn't do so good in the cup this year, dad got Zipping in the same draw that the rest of us won out of and his horse ended up getting scrapped before the race started) ended up getting 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

3. I went to the comic book shop in town yesterday (it's been open for a couple of months since it opened but I hadn't had the chance to have a look in it) and I got a couple of comics. I ended up buying two comics (X-Factor 13 and Runaways 23) I was going to get a third one but it turned out that I only had enough money to buy two comics. I also got a third comic (Justice League of America) that was leftover from Free Comic Book Day and the guy who was working there was trying to get rid of the ones that was leftover.

I had wanted to get more issues of New Mutants, vol 2 since I got the 1st issue of the newest series but that was in 2004 and I hadn't picked up any more copies of the series. It turns out the series aren't in print anymore, which sucks so I'm now probably going to have buy them online when I actually have enough money in my bank account.

I finally got my seminar presentation out of the road. I'm just glad that I've now finished. I was the second last person to go today (there were only about five of us in class and there are still two more people to go who weren't here today) and it had gotten to the point where I just wanted to go and get it done because I hate the nervous feeling of waiting before I have to get up and speak in front of a group of people.

I feel pretty good about how the seminar went, it wasn't the absolute best that I've done but it also wasn't the absolute worst that I've done either. Regardless I'm just happy to have it done and apart from fixing up my annotated bibliography that I've got to do as well as the seminar, now I can focus on all the things that are due in my other subjects by the end of term.

Nano has also started and currently my word count total is 2310 words out of 50000. So I think that's a pretty good start. I'm going to try and get the word count up further before I go to bed (hopefully at least 2500) but I'm happy with what I've done so far.

I've finally finished my presentation.

I ended up finishing it tonight and I didn't have any problems until I went to print my one page summary, which I needed to print a copy for everyone in the class (I'm not entirely sure how many there are exactly in my class but I do know that it's no more than 10) and when I went to the printer I realised that it had run out of ink.

This caused me to start panicking and trying to think of other options if I couldn't get my stuff printed. I had thought of asking Lee (my Multicultural Australia teacher) if I could print the stuff that I needed in class because if I print something in the library and its with a teacher we don't have to pay for printing.

Dad then thought of using the old printer that still had ink on it (this is the computer that I used while I was at uni last year) and he decided to see if it would work if we connected that computer to my laptop. Luckily that worked and I managed to print the copies of the summary and I printed the annotated bibliography for my seminar.

So now all that's left is for me to do the seminar, I hope that I'm not selected to go tomorrow but knowing my luck I'll end up being chosen to go first.
